Amicalola Falls at 729 feet is the third tallest water fall in the US east of the Mississippi River and less than a 90- minute drive from Atlanta near Dahlonega, Georgia. Amicalola is the Cherokee Indian word for "tumbling waters". Near the base of the falls is the southern end of the famous Appalachian Trail that runs from Georgia to Maine
